Hope Haven is set apart through the utilization of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), a design that incorporates proven community crime reduction strategies. These strategies have been successfully implemented in many places around the world, but never in a community for the unhoused. Hope Haven is a revolutionary initiative in providing a secure and supportive environment for families in need. In addition, this community is designed to transition into single family homes, capable of becoming an upcoming neighborhood.

Hope Haven is meticulously designed with a focus on crime prevention and deterrence. While no safety standard can eliminate all crime, CPTED has consistently proven over the last six decades to improve safety and security outcomes for communities, neighborhoods, and their residents.

1) Natural Surveillance: The design allows for clear lines of site though the entire community, achieving eyes on the neighborhood and deterring crime.

2) Natural Access Control: Using the physical design, lighting and landscape to control where and how people move through a community.

3) Territorial Reinforcement: Ensuring that the identity of the community is clearly distinct from its surroundings to establish ownership and defensible space.

4) Programs of Maintenance: Ensuring that the community is taken care of in a way that communicates pride and ownership supporting the broken windows concept of crime prevention

Hope Haven: A Walkable Community

Hope Haven is designed to be walkable, providing natural surveillance throughout the neighborhood, deterring unintended users from exploiting the environment. By encouraging residents to come out of their homes and engage in relationships that foster bonds, the community promotes intentional community building.

1) Wide sidewalks with interesting landscaping along the paths.

2) A variety of destinations including parks, transportation infrastructure, community mailboxes, dog park, pool and fitness center, childcare facilities, food bank, resource center, and Central Park.

3) Traffic calming features like frequent speed humps slow traffic and deter driving within the community encouraging walking.
